2023 Bolowotan Memorial Gold Cup: Ultimate Villa, Adosag FCs Win Opening Matches

The 15th edition of the Gafaar Bolowotan Memorial Gold Cup kicked – off on Sunday, with two of the seeded teams winning their opening matches.

Director – General, Lagos State Sports Commission and sponsor of the tournament, Prince Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, accompanied by the Match Commissioner, officials of the Ikorodu Division Football Association (IDFA), executives of the football club owners in Ikorodu and other guests, performed the ceremonial kick – off.

The opening game between the Ultimate Villa FC, a team which has participated in all the editions of the Bolowotan Gold Cup and emerged champions three times and a debuntant, Apalura FC, a team which emerged the champion of the Adeboruwa Cup 2023 last month, ended 2 – 1 in favour of the Ultimate Villa FC.

Adebola Owolabi (No. 10 jersey) scored the first goal of the tournament for his team in the 3rd minute 26second, while the player of Apalura FC player, Yusuf Olowosile (No. 8 jersey), equalized in the 44th minute 43second.

Kanayo Godswill scored the second and winning goal for the Ultimate Villa FC in the 73rd minute of game, .

In the second game of the day, Adosag FC, a debutant under a great tactician, Coach Ibiyemi Adeleke (Coach Pepper), defeated the away team, Buqiensson FC which is also a debutant in the tournament, 2 – 0, with Alode Ibrahim (No 16 jersey) and Ayodele Ibrahim (No. 10 jersey) scoring for the Adosaq FC in the 5th and 76th minutes of the game watched by the Director – General, Lagos State Sports Commission and sponsor of the tournament, Prince Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan.

Former national U – 17 striker, Wisdom Ubani, played for the Adosaq FC.

The tournament continues on Tuesday at the same venue.
